A bottle of wine can be a thoughtful and meaningful gift, especially if you’ve taken the time to carefully select something that personifies your dad, partner or father figure in some way. Red wine from the Barossa Valley is renowned for being bold, refined, complex yet wonderfully balanced – making it the perfect gift for someone who embodies these traits.
To help you select the best Barossa Valley Wine Company wine for your dad this Father’s Day, we asked our resident winemaker, Roxanne Kloppers, for her expert advice and recommendations.
For the dad who is a dedicated wine collector and takes great pride in adding to his impressive wine cellar, you can’t go past our most premium wine, Farms Shiraz. Named in honour of Barossa Valley Wine Company’s spiritual home, the Farms vineyard, it is our expression of an iconic and traditional Barossa Shiraz.
With up to 20 months maturation in traditional oak barrels, Farms Shiraz is rich and intense. Aromas of blackberry, black olive, liquorice and cigar box characters lead to a powerful palate of rich blackberry, olive tapenade and vanillin spice with dense, powerful and grippy tannins.
Our flagship wine can be enjoyed now, but it’s even better with careful cellaring for 15+ years.
For the dad who considers himself a red wine aficionado and is genuinely fascinated by the provenance and craftsmanship of wine, and loves an authentic brand story, our Stockyard Shiraz is a fantastic choice for him.
Named after the stone ruin on our vineyard that is more than 100 years old, the Stockyard was originally an outbuilding for livestock. Today, it occupies a more serene position overlooking our Shiraz vines.
Stockyard Shiraz has an opulent mouthfeel from the powerful tannins and integrated oak characters from 18 months of barrel maturation. Aromas of blackberry, plum and licorice with savoury white spice on the nose, it has a rich palate concentrated with dark fruit flavours.
This fine and elegant Shiraz can be enjoyed now, or it can be carefully stored for 10+ years.
For the dad who loves to cook, whether it be grilling on the barbecue, whipping up a classic Sunday roast, or slow cooking a rich ragu to serve with handmade pasta, The Residence Montepulciano is the wine for him.
The Residence represents the historic cottage on our Farms vineyard which was one of the earliest properties ever settled in the Barossa.
Medium-bodied and almost electric purple in colour, The Residence Montepulciano has a beautiful acidity making it an excellent match for a range of dishes and cuisines.
Perfect for drinking now, this delicious wine has delicate aromas of red plum and blueberry that are complemented by delicate oak spice and a hint of aniseed. The palate is vibrant and fruity, with the soft tannins providing a silky finish.
For the dad who is likely to immediately open your gift of wine to share in the company of his loved ones, The Residence Shiraz is an excellent option.
Vibrant plum and blackberry characters on the nose with hints of chocolate and earthiness flow through to a rich, bold palate packed with dark fruit flavours.
This vibrant Shiraz can be shared and enjoyed now, or it can be cellared for 10+ years.
For the dad who wants for nothing and is happiest when he is enjoying a juicy steak with a glass or two of luscious red, our Gravel Track GSM is his perfect match.
Gravel Track pays tribute to the long gravel and limestone track that winds its way through our historic 60-year-old Farms Vineyard.
Our GSM is a delicious, harmonious blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre grapes all sourced from premium vineyards in the Barossa Valley. The characters from the Grenache makes this wine juicy and fruit forward; the Shiraz gives a little bit of opulence in the mid palette; while the Mourvèdre adds a slightly savoury edge.
With Gravel Track GSM you can expect lifted aromas of red cherry and plum complemented by hints of liquorice and vanilla on the nose, with a rich fleshy palate.
With its soft and velvety, yet persistent finish, this wine is perfect for drinking now, or it can be cellared for 5+ years.
